Hurrah! Koenigsegg has announced it’ll make an extra 20 CC850s

Demand for the 1,363bhp V8 hypercar was so strong that Koenigsegg will now build 70 in total

Published: 24 Aug 2022

”Clearly, we struck a chord with the connoisseurs and the fans by blending our roots with novel thinking and a timeless design that stands apart from the rest,” says Christian von Koenigsegg after unveiling his 50th birthday present to himself – the bonkers Koenigsegg CC850 – just last week.

“We are humbled and grateful for the response and will do our utmost to exceed expectations.”

This is because Koenigsegg has just announced that it won’t be building 50 examples of the 1,363bhp reborn hypercar as it had originally planned. Nope, demand has been so strong amongst both loyal Koenigsegg buyers and those new to the brand that it’ll now make 70, with the extra 20 justified by the CC850 also being designed to celebrate 20 years since CvK launched his first car.

“We asked several long-term clients who were early on signing up for the CC850 for their view on a limited raise in numbers to better meet the appetite,” says a Koenigsegg statement. “Their responses were positive.”

Good news for all you manual gearbox-loving millionaires out there, you’ve now got a second chance to grab a build slot. Just make sure you pick up the phone and write the cheque before you embark on reading the explanation of how said gearbox works. It is mind-bendingly complex and utterly brilliant.
