Have a proper listen to the TVR Griffith’s 5.0-litre V8

TVR is alive and well, and is building a new supercar called the Griffith. This much you know. What you probably don’t know is that said supercar sounds really, really fantastic.

Indeed, this is a good thing because, as we’ve mentioned before, noise is one of the pillars upon which TVR was built.

The V8 is a Cosworth-tuned Ford lump, capable of producing a heady, meaty 500bhp. Allied to the Griffith’s 1,250kg weight, it’s 400bhp-per-tonne. It also looks quite nice too.

There’s proper 50:50 weight distribution, and some aero at work: new TVR boss Les Edgar told TG a while back that though the Griffith is “traction limited at low speed”, above 60mph everything starts to gel.

So there’s downforce and ground-effect aero, carbon panels on top of a steel structure and, in a fact worth repeating, a really rather lovely noise.
