GTA Motor news - Only 780bhp? - 2009
We're sorry. We shouldn't be cynical when a start-up company releases a bunch of shiny pictures of an identikit supercar promising Veyron-beating performance at a tenth of the price.
Like this, the happily named Spano from Spanish racing outfit GTA Motor. We want to believe their claims that it'll do 0-60mph in under three seconds and top out at 210mph, courtesy of an all-new V10 putting 780bhp and 679lb ft of torque to the rear wheels through a seven-speed sequential manual gearbox.
We dearly want to believe that a small Spanish brand can build its own V10, and somehow stay profitable by producing just 99 cars. We want to believe it can give a proper scare to Gallardos and F430s.
But we don't. Sorry.
So prove us wrong, GTA. Build the Spano. Make it brilliant. Change the name. We shall eat our words. And a carbon ceramic brake disc for good measure. Promise.
Talking of the Veyron, here's a clip of our tame racing driver thrashing the 1,000bhp ultracar round the Top Gear test track:
