Gordon Murray Special Vehicles is a new division that’ll build one-offs and... specials
Want *more* one-off and low-volume Gordon Murray excellence? Step this way
Gordon Murray has announced a new division in his ever-expanding empire of excellence. It’s called Gordon Murray Special Vehicles, and as the name suggests, it’s focused on… special vehicles.
‘But every Gordon Murray vehicle is a special vehicle,’ you lament. And you’re right. This new division – that’ll sit alongside Gordon Murray Automotive and Gordon Murray Engineering – is even more special. Special squared.
GMSV’s remit will centre around three product lines: first up is ‘bespoke’, which will build one-off or super low-volume cars that’ll sit on a brand-new platform, tailored to customers’ specific design and engineering requirements.
So if you want a five-door, semi-convertible V18-engined three-wheeler that’ll lap the ‘Ring in under five, then… perhaps ask for something better.
The second string to Murray’s shiny new bow will focus on ‘heritage’ stuff, which is described as “revivals of Gordon Murray’s heritage cars built as either pure continuation models or to a reimagined, contemporary specification”.
No official word on what this will look like in reality – a road-going Brabham fan car? A reimagined McLaren F1? A rocket-powered T25? – but it sounds immensely interesting, because Murray’s built nothing but stone-cold hits. More as we get it.
Finally, there's a ‘special vehicles’ line in Gordon Murray’s Special Vehicles division, which deals with low-volume, limited-edition cars designed and built by Murray and his team, that’ll sit outside of the T.33s and T.50s of the world. This, the team explains, will celebrate “the brand’s rich and successful history”.
Over to the big man himself. “Over the years, we have received many requests to design and build one-offs and specials of all kinds,” said Murray. “Until very recently we always resisted these requests as we were focused on launching our halo T.50 supercar, and finalising development of subsequent products: the T.50S Niki Lauda and the T.33 range.
“Now, as we have grown the business and team, we have established separate design and engineering departments for GMSV – it’s the perfect time to extend our offering to special vehicles.

“GMSV has a different agenda and will work across three distinct special product categories – Bespoke, Heritage, and Special Vehicles – all of which sit outside of the current GMA product and platform plan,” he added.
That’s all we’ve got to go on for now, so while we wait for more info, why not share your wildest, most extravagant one-off or low-volume car you’d like Murray to build. We’re pinning our hopes on that V18 three-wheeler.
