This is a gloss carbon-fibre McLaren 675LT Spider

How do you make a supercar even less practical? Why, you coat it in a very expensive and difficult to repair material, of course. The 675LT Spider up top is the work of McLaren Special Operations, or MSO – a service launched in 2011 to “provide a bespoke personalisation service for McLaren customers”. Over the years it’s given us many special P1s, 12Cs, and 650Ss.

But this is its latest thing – a limited run 675LT Spider coated in gloss carbon-fibre. It’s called the LT Carbon Series, and all 25 it plans to build have already been sold for an undisclosed sum, to buyers supposedly entranced by the all-carbon P1 from the Geneva Motor Show.

The Carbon Series has 40 per cent more carbon-fibre body parts than the standard 675LT Spider, making it practically all-carbon. The roof and tonneau cover, A-pillars, bonnet and rear deck, side blades, front and rear wings and fuel filler flap are all carbon parts unique to the Carbon Series.  

And because of all the work that’s gone into developing these new carbon parts, you can’t even retrofit them to one of the 500 'normal' LT Spiders.

Performance remains unchanged, which means 666bhp, 0-62mph in 2.9secs and 203mph. Our Big Read has all the info, as does our man Paul Horrell’s review of the 675LT Spider.
