This coachbuilt Lamborghini Huracan ‘Rayo’ is aiming for 300mph

Orange, slightly Miura-esque creation is straight outta Coventry and wants the triple-tonne

Published: 03 Sep 2021

Take a deep breath, because there’s quite a bit to take in here. You’re looking at the Rayo, a Lamborghin Huracan that’s just emptied its life savings on both protein shakes and major cosmetic surgery... all with a punchy target in mind.

We’ll start beneath, because you’re probably still composing yourself when it comes to the exterior. Wrapped up in plentiful styling is a Huracan whose V10 engine has had two turbos whacked on to basically triple its power output, now standing at 1900bhp - a bike old hike from the Huracan LP-610's base.

And it's not just for occasional moments of YouTube traffic light infamy, either; the aim is 300mph. Yep, the thing Bugatti took years of computer wizardry to figure out how to do is top of the Rayo’s to-do list.

Which is where the overhauled, perhaps Miura-inspired makeover comes in. It’s the work of Envisage Group in Coventry (commissioned by 7X Design), who’ve effectively coachbuilt a new body to give the Huracan’s already quite good aero a thorough going over in order to add another 50 per cent to its top speed. The drag coefficient has apparently dropped from 0.39 to 0.28.

Each new (carbon fibre) panel has been engineered to align with it original counterpart to ensure Lamborghini’s stock monocoque chassis remains unperturbed by the whole thing.

“We’re delighted to have played such a key role in 7X Design’s remarkable Rayo,” says Tim Strafford, CEO of Envisage. “This car is an extremely exciting one-off creation and I am immensely proud of the work of our talented team, who are expert in taking a client’s design and then fully realising that vision to the highest possible standards.”

And ‘highest possible standards’ are indeed what you crave when aiming for the triple-tonne…

Would you give it a go?
