Classified of the week: Lamborghini Murcielago SV

UK dealer asks £325k for bright yellow LP670-4. Worth every penny

Published: 15 Sep 2016

Those of you under the age of 25 may well have had a picture of this thing on your bedroom wall. The Lamborghini Murcielago SV LP670-4, to give it its full title, was just that kind of car.

Revealed at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show to a no doubt adoring public, the SV was a more hardcore, even faster version of the already fairly swift LP640, with 661bhp from its 6.5-litre, naturally-aspirated V12. Doesn’t seem a lot in a world where family estates are available with upwards of 600bhp, but it was nonetheless enough to spirit the SV to 62mph in 3.2 seconds, and see it top-out at 212mph. Unless you specified the big ‘Aeropack’ wing, which looked mega and gave you heaps more downforce, but dropped that top speed to 209mph.

Around 100kg was trimmed from the weight of the ‘standard’ Murcielago – 33kg from modifications to the chassis and body, 34kg from the interior and another 33kg from the engine and drivetrain (mostly thanks to a new exhaust). Besides the wing, other aero enhancements were made to the exterior, it wore massive 335-section tyres out back and had an interior finished in Alcantara and carbon fibre.

It was – still is, in fact – a very special thing. And now one of the 350 built is up for sale in the UK, for the princely sum of £325,000. Sounds reasonable, no? Super Veloce Racing’s car is the 22nd built, and one of just 28 made in RHD. It’s done a little over 15k miles, and is specced to the nines. But here’s the thing – a brand new Aventador SV is £10k less, at £315,078 (if there are any left, that is). Your choice?
