An American tuner has built a 757bhp Corvette Z06

Can’t wait for an official ZR1-spec ’Vette? Callaway applies Aventador SV power to Z06

Published: 29 Jul 2015

American tuner Callaway certainly gave itself a mountain to climb after boosting the standard, 460bhp Corvette to a whopping 627bhp. What on earth would they do to the more powerful Z06, we wondered?

757 horsepowers, that’s what. Ladies and gentlemen, Callaway has revealed its tuned version of the current generation Corvette Z06. And it’s a monster.

“Why go big when you can go bigger?” says Callaway. Indeed. And, despite that punchy rhetoric sounding like it belongs in a gentleman’s spam email folder, there are some serious things to back up the bravado.

Callaway has binned the regular Z06’s 1740cc supercharger, and squeezed in a 2300cc job. That’s right: the supercharger alone has a larger capacity than the engine in a Honda Civic Type-R. And then there’s the small matter of the 7.0-litre V8 it is bolted too.

Small wonder then, that the Callaway Z06 churns out a not-inconsiderable 757bhp, and 777lb ft. That’s more power than a Lamborghini Aventador SV, and over twice the torque of a Porsche GT3 RS. Callaway has had to redesign the Zed’s bonnet to allow the supercharger to peep through the hood. It’s practically trying to escape.

Callaway reckons its Z06 will run to 60mph in just 2.8s (0.15 seconds faster than the factory car), and run a 10.5-second quarter-mile at 131mph. For reference, the standard car is good for a 10.9-second run, at 127mph.

In the US, the three-year warrantied package will set you back a reasonable-sounding $16,995 (£10,870) on top of the $79,000 or so that a basic Z06 asks. So at $95,995 all in – or indeed, just over £61k – it’s a 757bhp monster for the same money as a well-specced BMW M3. Yeah, exactly.
