This is the 1,000bhp Saleen S7 LM

“America’s only true supercar” gets a seven-off special with LaFerrari-beating power

Published: 19 Sep 2016

This is the new Saleen S7 LM. Well, a nice electronic drawing of it. It’s a special edition of “America’s only true supercar” (their words), and it commemorates Saleen’s motorsport success.

It’s 20 years since Saleen kicked off a seven-year run of winning worldwide race championships, with 12 trophies accrued in that time.

Details of the S7 LM are relatively scant, but the most important is that its 7.0-litre twin-turbo V8 has a princely 1000bhp.

That ought to be enough, when the S7 TT of 2006 managed 248mph and a 2.8sec 0-60mph time with precisely 25 per cent less power. No performance figures have been attached to the LM yet, but expect large and impressive ones.

Saleen, more notable for its tuning of Teslas and Mustangs of late, describes its S7 as the most successful supercar ever on the racetrack, having notched up wins at “every major racetrack in the world”, Le Mans, Daytona and the Nürburgring included. We’d argue a Ferrari or Porsche is still the supercar to go for if motorsport heritage is your number one criteria, mind…

You’ll get rarity by buying an S7 LM, though, with just seven being produced. Would you be brave enough to choose this over the performance car establishment?
