Top Gear magazine: the Adventures Issue!
Welcome to the Top Gear magazine Adventures Issue – a whole magazine devoted to our love of driving, and all the freedom that entails. The pick of this month’s ambitious drives includes taking the world’s fastest car for one final quick spin (for a mere 2,404 miles) across America’s legendary B-road, Route 66, hitting the summit of Mount Washington in the new Subaru WRX STi, assaulting Iceland in the new Citroen C4 Cactus and driving Kimi Raikkonen’s actual 2012 Lotus F1 car….while saying a quiet prayer.
Get inspiration for your own motoring adventure by getting the fantastic new look August issue of Top Gear magazine, on sale now.
With production of the Bugatti Veyron coming to an end, we were granted one last fling with the world’s fastest production car, and what better way to celebrate the end of a true icon, than with one of the ultimate driving adventures, travelling across America on Route 66? It took seven days, with the Veyron consuming 860 litres of fuel and – incredibly – no speeding tickets.
From a truly iconic drive to something very ambitious (ambitious, definitely not rubbish, but possibly a bit stupid). We drove the new Subaru WRX STi up 6000ft to the top of Mount Washington – where it reached a fairly chill minus 60. Apparently it was going to be impossible, but we did it anyway. And from one extreme environment to another, to Iceland to drive the new Citroën C4 Cactus.
Then to the opposite end of the planet - Australia, and a 171mph spin in a 680bhp Holden Walkinshaw down the derestricted Stuart Highway - then back to Europe and France, and the rare opportunity to drive Kimi Raikkonen’s 2012 Lotus F1 car (the very car from which Kimi bellowed “leave me alone, I know what I’m doing,” before winning the Abu Dhabi GP).
From France we head to Germany and an exclusive drive in Mercedes new AMG GT prototype. Can it compete with the F-Type and 911? We find out... And the incredible journeys end back in the UK, where we take the new Porsche Macan off-roading with the Audi SQ5 and Range Rover Evoque…. and a British-made FV430 tank.
Want more? Also this month, we take a look at the one-off V12 Ferrari F12 TRS (rumoured to have cost £2.5m, might be less), JGL’s Special Ops unit reveals its 567bhp F-Type speedster Project 7, and we check out the dashboard of the 135,000 bhp Bloodhound. Plus Tinie Tempah takes our Driving Test, and Richard Hammond’s icon is the mighty MG Metro 6R4.
Plus, we review all the latest new cars that matter, including the Mercedes S-Class Coupe, Alfa Giulietta, Peugeot 308, Aston Vantage N430, Audi A3 E-Tron and group test the Peugeot 108, Citroen C1 and Toyota Aygo.
Get all of this, plus the latest news, reviews of all the cars you need to know about and, of course, the usual thoughts and ramblings from Clarkson, Hammond and May.
The new-look August issue of Top Gear magazine is available in all major retailers and supermarkets now.
