Assiduous internet scourers that you are, you've probably already spotted the astonishing photos of the new weapon from SSC - the guys who took the production car speed record from Bugatti in 2007 with the 256mph SSC - lighting up blog sites around the world.

That car. The jaw-dropping white one, posing on the deck of a naval destroyer. Now, there has been much speculation on the origin of these images, and how such a car came to be parked on the flight deck of HMS Dauntless.
