Scuderia Bizzarrini P538 news - How Bizzarrini - 2008

Since we're having a bit of a Ferrari 250 GT appreciation week here at TG, here's a supercar concept that can trace its roots right back to the Ferrari legend.

Fairly directly, in fact. This is the Scuderia Bizzarrini P538, a mid-engined Koenigsegg-Porsche-Pagani-flavoured supercar named after legendary Italian sports car engineer Giotti Bizzarrini.

Bizzarrini worked for Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and Lamborghini in the 50s and 60s, including a spell as chief engineer at Ferrari where he helped to create - yes, you guessed it - the 250 GT and GTO.

He then established his own Bizzarrini company in 1963, creating the beautiful-but-not-very-good P538S Le Mans racer.

But we have to concede that this latest attempt to revive the Bizzarrini name looks pretty impressive. Power comes from the seven-litre Chevrolet V8 fout of the Corvette Z06, and though there's no word on predicted performance, expect it to be somewhere in the internal-organ-readjustment territory.

If it ever gets built. Which it won't. Scuderia Bizzarrini says the P538 will be formally unveiled at the Nardo test track later this month, but we'll believe it when we see it.
