Mercedes news - Merc unveils AMG specials for Oz - 2010

Published: 18 Oct 2010

Australia totally digs AMG Mercs. Apparently, 'down there' is the fifth largest consumer of Mercedes' lunatic Special Forces division, so the company decided to reward the sun-kissed country's devotion to hoonery with two special editions.

The C63 AMG pictured above is the only one in the world painted in Pearl Orange (which you can't buy), and is specced with the AMG Performance Package Plus (which you can buy), upping the C-Class saloon and estate's power to 485bhp. The loon-pack also adds 19-inch black alloys, keyless go and some leather designery bits inside. Not quite as drifty as the UK-special DR520 AMG, but quite awesome nonetheless.

Another special is the SLS on display. Apparently, it's the only one in the world painted in designo magno Night Black, and features red highlights inside and out. That is all, and probably for good reason. The SLS requires no further tuning.

But does the C63? After all, a standard 450-odd bhp is substantial, and as Herr Stig found out in Spain, still unable to match the finesse of the lesser-powered V8 M3. Has absolute power corrupted absolutely, or do you love good, old fashioned brute force?
