Koenigsegg will build a Regera ‘megacar’

Published: 09 Feb 2015

UDPATE:

News has reached TG.com that Koenigsegg is planning on revealing a brand new ‘megacar', and it will be called the ‘Regera'. Yep, us neither.

What, you might reasonably ask, is a ‘megacar'? It's not just a made-up word to sit above your garden-variety hypercars (things like the LaFerrari and McLaren P1) but rather a term used by Koenigsegg to describe its One:1.

The ‘mega', then, refers to the megawatt of power produced by that bonkers One:1, which runs a whopping 1340bhp from it's 5.0-litre, twin turbo V8 powerplant. That megawatt of power is fed into a car weighing just 1360kg (that's the ‘One:1' bit), with enough aero to melt your face.

No details have been provided on the upcoming ‘Regera' megacar, other than the timing; it will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March, alongside the Agera RS we told you about last week.

We'll bring you more as soon as we hear it...

Friday 6 February 2015:

There are very few people in the world who would sample a Koenigsegg Agera R and think, "Meh. All a bit safe, isn't it? Know what this needs? More power. And an extra 'S'."

Mr Koenigsegg is one of those few people. Hence the Swedish supercar builder has quietly announced that an Agera ‘RS' will debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

W, and indeed, T F, you might rightly be thinking. The ‘standard' Agera and its twin-turbo, 1115bhp V8-powered engine manages a top speed of 250mph, and can get from 0-200mph in 17.68 seconds.

What, then, for this Agera RS? The company has revealed nothing other than the teaser image above. But, with the 1340bhp Koenigsegg One:1's arrival, we'd assume the RS would pinch some tech from that Le Mans-inspired weapon of G-force. And wind up the power a tad, because 1115bhp is pedestrian, really.

Especially considering Hennessey's Venom spits out a ludicrous 1244bhp, the upcoming Hennessey Venom F5 is planning on 1400bhp, and even the Bugatti Veyron - now in the sunset of its life - still packs a mighty 1200bhp in GSV guise.

We'll bring you more as soon as we get it. Including of course, the aforementioned One:1's planned effort to secure a new lap record at the ‘Ring later this year.
