Is this Ford’s new Le Mans car?

The Ford GT is officially here. So too, is the announcement that there will be a Forza Motorsport 6, the cover of which will feature... the new Ford GT.

So, lots of good news. But there could be more good news, too, because if you pause the above video at around 1m 49s, you could be looking at a potential Ford LMP1 car.

Well, a render of it, anyway. The video, released by the good guys and gals at Forza as they stepped behind the scenes at the Ford studio, is a good way to get up close and personal with the new 600bhp poster boy. It's also a good way to make rampant speculation about Ford's much-rumoured return to Le Mans.

We know of course, that next year marks the 50th anniversary of Ford's astonishing 1-2-3 victory at Le Mans in the old GT40 - where the Blue Oval beat arch-nemesis Ferrari - so getting the ball rolling now would make sense.

And though Ferrari has made some noise about returning to Le Mans, officially Ford has remained silent. Keep those fingers crossed it'll morph into an LMP1 car, and both manufacturers resume battle. Ferrari, preferably, with something like THIS...
