Ford GT news - Bit o’ orange - 2008

Published: 17 Mar 2008

There's only one colour scheme that you should ever order your Ford GT in: Gulf-special orange-on-blue.

But, if we're banned from indulging our retro side, we'll happily take this orange effort from Brooklands-based tuner Avro... with a bunch of extra power as compensation.

170bhp of extra power to be exact, up to 720bhp over the standard GT's not-especially-modest 550bhp. Avro has turned its spanners to Ford's 5.4-litre V8, fitting it with a bigger supercharger, a fresh exhaust, and a bunch of other nice shiny stuff for even more noise and fury.

Which means 627lb ft of torque, a top speed 'in excess' of 220mph and a 0-60 time - we're guessing - somewhere damn close to three seconds.

You'll be glad to hear that the Avro GT sits 25mm lower on its springs, with bigger brakes and a wider track, hopefully preventing you redecorating the central reservation a new and exciting shade of orange.

Look closely and you'll notice that there's no rear bumper - a deletion designed to save weight and prevent anyone ever attempting a tight bit of parallel parking.

Only 10 Avro GTs will be produced. And yes, they'll all be orange.
