Devon GTX supercar news - GTX aims for ’Ring record - 2009

Chrysler confirmed in March that it was selling off its Dodge Viper business - and factory - for $10 million, but Fiat's latest partner hasn't exactly been flush with offers since then.

In fact, Chrysler has received just one serious bid for Viper: an offer of $5.5 million from upstart American motorsport company Devon Motorworks (DMW).

Which is where this car comes in. This is DMW's new GTX supercar, and the big news is that it's out to grab the Nurburgring production car lap record - especially if DMW gets hold of the Viper factory.

Not much is known about the GTX - this is the first official rendering we've seen of the car - but, judging by DMW's bid, it'd be fair to assume it's based on Viper underpinnings.

Which would mean an 8.4-litre V10 putting around 600bhp - and easily tunable for plenty more. Don't forget that the Viper ACR managed a 7m22s lap of the 'Ring, which as far as we know is still a production record.

The GTX is no one-man-and-his-angle-grinder operation: its design is under the stewardship of Swedish designer and former Ford employee Daniel Paulin.

We should see a concept version of the GTX at the posh Pebble Beach Concourse in August, but DMW is promising an attempt at the Nurburgring record before then. Watch this space...
