Behold! New Porsche GT3 Cup

A new Porsche 911 means a new 911 race car. And what you see above is the first track-bound version of the seventh generation 911: the brand spanking new 991 GT3 Cup.

As it's the latest step in Porsche's evolution of the most successful race car in the world, things have improved. How have they improved? Well it still uses the Mezger engine instead of the new direct-injected engines that you get in the 991 road cars. But it's been updated. Now, when you wind the 3.8-litre flat-six to 7,500rpm, you'll have 460hp going through the rear wheels. Which is a ten horsepower improvement.

There's also a new six-speed dog-type gearbox (nothing to do with schnauzers, more the lack of synchro drums) developed by Porsche Motorsport which now comes with paddles behind the wheel for the first time.

The Porsche motorsport guys didn't stop there. They've also put new centre-mount, single-piece wheels over bigger brakes and wrapped them in new Michelin slicks that are two centimetres wider at the front and ten centimetres at the back than the old car.

And it's not just the oily bits they've tinkered with, the inside's changed too. No DAB or seat heaters, but there is a new safety cage and race seat that hugs you like the monster from the Cup-A-Soup advert, and will also protect you if things get a bit crashy.

The car will be run exclusively in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in 2013. And can be yours for £146,000 plus taxes. Although you'll have to be a fan of white, as that's the only colour. Want one, dot commers?
