Stasis tunes R8 V8 to 540bhp

Published: 10 May 2011

There is a hole in your life. You can't put a finger on it, but it's there. You have a V8-powered Audi R8 and instinctively fear that one day, you will pull up alongside a V10-powered Audi R8. Your life will feel small and futile.

Thankfully, US tuner Stasis can sense this disruption in your psychic energy. Which is why it has announced a package for UK R8 V8 owners to allow them to accelerate fractionally faster than a stock Audi R8 V10.

By strapping a supercharger and some cooling onto the Audi's 4.2-litre V8, the firm has squeezed out 540bhp - a 120bhp increase over the standard R8 and 15bhp more than the V10. Torque rises from 350lb ft to 435lb ft and the 0-62mph dash now takes just 3.6 seconds. For bragging reference, that's 0.8 seconds faster than the standard V8, and 0.1 second quicker than the standard V10.

Elsewhere, the Stasis package includes a stainless steel exhaust, Alcon brakes with two-piece floating discs, lowered springs with matched bump-stops and 20in wheels.

Stasis told TopGear.com that lots of people want to modify their Audi R8s, and that their last kit for the V10 sold out in under two months. The whole package will cost somewhere just under £30k, they report, while you can opt for just the supercharger alone for £20,000.
