Video: McLaren P1 GTR races helicopter gunship at TG's Speed Week
Watch the very-much-not-road-legal hybrid tackle a 218mph chopper at the Red Bull Ring
It was the obvious thing to do. We had a McLaren P1 GTR, complete with optional Bruno Senna. We had many tyres. We had a track, in the form of Austria’s most excellent Red Bull Ring. And we had a Bell Cobra TAH-1F helicopter gunship. Well, what would you have done?
Yep, this is what happens when you hand TG the keys to both a McLaren P1 GTR and an attack helicopter. It all happened at this year’s installment of TG Speed Week, which saw us gather 19 cars – and the helicopter gunship – together for a week of going very quickly indeed.
You can read all about the chopper behind these blue words, but suffice to say, it costs £7 million new, it’ll do 218mph just 10cm off the ground, and it’s flown by a man called ‘Blacky’ Schwarz. Honestly. It all makes the McLaren seem a bit tame. Which of course, it really isn’t…
