Skoda has released a sketch of the upcoming Superb

The four-door saloon isn’t quite dead yet

Published: 07 May 2019

If we’re being honest, it’s not often that we pay too much attention to sketches of new cars or upcoming concepts. Drawings are generally wildly over the top and completely unrepresentative of what the finished product will look like.

However, it would seem as though Skoda is bucking the trend, because we can very much imagine the image above being transferred into metal.

The Czechs are also perhaps bucking the trend by keeping a four-door saloon as their flagship model, rather than handing that title to an SUV such as the Kodiaq. Hurrah! Long live the saloon we say.

The new Superb will be the model’s fourth generation since the name was reborn in 2001, and it looks as though it’ll get the all-important light bar between the fog lights, as well as Skoda lettering on the back rather than a badge – both of 2019’s must haves.

Skoda also claims that when the Superb is launched it’ll have "the brand’s latest innovations in terms of design, technology and functionality". Novelty Skoda Toaster? We can but dream.

We’ll see the world premiere of the finished thing at the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Bratislava – of course, where else would you launch a car?
