Rolls-Royce Phantom news - Illustrious Phantom rules the waves - 2006

Published: 24 Mar 2006

Rolls-Royce is all at sea with the Phantom. But the Brit luxo-barge builder is far from worried as it dropped a Phantom onto the deck of the Royal Navy's new flagship aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious.

The stunt was not just a chance to fly the Union Jack, but also to present the captain of HMS Illustrious with a new chair.

The one-off captain's chair has been specially built by Rolls-Royce engineers and has been adapted from the design of the Phantom's front seats.

Finished in appropriate Navy Blue and with Rolls-Royce logos on the headrest, the seat complements the four Rolls-Royce gas turbine engines that power the ship.
