Rolls-Royce makes a Mini

Published: 13 Apr 2011

So, BMW has forced Rolls-Royce to play with its Mini sibling. This is the result, the limited edition Mini ‘Inspired by Goodwood'. Just 1,000 will be built.

Set to make its debut at next week's Shanghai motor show, the Mini ‘not-inspired-by-a-pestilential-Foxton's-mobile' features a rather extreme bespoke interior conceived by Rolls-Royce.

These luxuriant bits of stuff include dashboard and doorhandle surfaces in Walnut Burr (Roller's, ahem, exclusive wood), cashmere roof lining, deep pile lambswool floor mats, sun visors and rear shelf and the leather, centre console, carpet and body pillar cladding coloured in the company's Cornsilk colour.

The body is finished in Diamond Black (another Rolls exclusive), and the wheels are of 17in multi-spoke flavour.

Those of you wistfully hoping a renegade Rolls employee scrawled the 6.75-litre V12 from the Phantom into the design plans will, sadly, be disappointed. The Rolls Mini gets a 1.6-litre turbo'd petrol engine with 184bhp, as featured in the Cooper S. You do however, get some normal Mini options as standard, including adaptive headlights, park distance control, a Harmon Kardon hi-fi system and on-board computer.

The price? Still waiting on that, but if you have to ask... it'll be pricey. We'll be in Shanghai bringing you live coverage, so we'll definitely be sitting in this one. But until we get the pleasure of burying our feet in the lambswool mats, your thoughts, if you please...
