RIP: the little Citroen C1 is dead
Production of the C1 has come to an end, with a bargain basement C3 intended to replace it
Citroen has officially killed off the cute little C1, with production ending at its plant in Kolin, Czech Republic. Sad times.
The C1 was first launched back in 2005 and almost 1.2 million of the things have been sold across two generations. It was never the cleverest of the city car pack, but it majored on decent driving dynamics and endless customisation options.
Citroen says the C1’s death comes as a result of “changes to working patterns, restricted vehicle usage in city centres and the need for an ultra-affordable electric solution in response to a host of new urban mobility needs”. That electric solution – according to Citroen – is the Ami.
Or, for those that still want a five-door supermini, there will apparently be a new C3 You! (yep, complete with the exclamation mark) launched in April this year. In the UK, that’ll start from £12,995 – undercutting the top-spec C1.
Any more love for the C1 out there, Internet?
