You want luxury? This Zimmer Golden Spirit is REAL luxury

Forget your Rolls-Royce Phantoms and Bentley Flying Spurs, this is what you need to make a real statement

Published: 15 Mar 2023

If you live in the UK and want a luxury saloon that really makes an impact, you can forget all about the controversially styled BMW i7 or the impossibly expensive Rolls-Royce Phantom, because TG has found just the car for you.

Yep, it’s a Zimmer Golden Spirit that was originally built for a Texan doctor and was apparently used to transport President George W. Bush around the 2003 Texas Motor Show. God bless America.

So, what actually is the Golden Spirit? Well, as you might have guessed from the strange silhouette, it started life as a 2002 Lincoln Town Car. Zimmer was originally in the business of making odd retro barges from its foundation in 1980 right up until it went bankrupt in 1988. Incredibly though, in 1996 a man named Art Zimmer (who had no relation to founder Paul Zimmer) bought the rights to the company and picked up where it had left off, building weird 1920s and 30s-inspired saloons right up until 2020.

This particular car was imported to the UK in 2009 and has apparently only covered 29,000 miles in its lifetime. It’s powered by the Lincoln’s standard 4.6-litre V8, which sends its power (around 200bhp originally) to the rear wheels through a four-speed auto gearbox. Mmmm, luxury.

The interior is full of dark grey leather with Zimmer logos embroidered onto the seats. There’s ‘wood’ too, plus a Kenwood sat nav and Alpine DVD players for the rear seat passengers. All very Noughties.

The exterior is difficult to put into words if we’re honest, so we’ll let the pictures up above do most of the talking. We have absolutely no idea how long the thing is, and no idea how loud those gold air horns are. Nor why there's a side-hinged bonnet and eagle hood ornament.
