You can now order a new Shelby Cobra in the UK
After nearly 60 years, official order books are now open… ahead of anywhere else
Good news! For the first time in almost 60 years, you can now order a new Shelby Cobra in the UK, following an agreement with London-based retailer Clive Sutton.
As an official Shelby licensee, every model built by Shelby American and sold by Clive Sutton will also be recognised and recorded in the official Shelby Cobra register. Which matters. And that’s not all, as this latest evolution of the famed roadster, the Shelby Cobra CSX10000 to give it its full name, is also set to be available exclusively in the UK – at least to start with, anyway.
Let’s talk specs, then. The base CSX10000 gets the same naturally aspirated 5.0-litre Coyote V8 engine as the current Ford Mustang, outputting 454bhp and 420lb ft of torque and mated to a six-speed Tremec manual gearbox. If you’ve got your brave pants on however, you can also spec a Whipple twin-screw 3.0-litre supercharger, upping the total power output to 690bhp at 5,000rpm and 550lb ft of torque at 5,800rpm. Yikes.
Few surprises when it comes to the design, with the CSX10000 getting 18-inch wheels (wrapped in Continental Extreme Contact Sport tyres) in place of the original Cobra’s 15-inch wheels, while power steering, Wilwood power-assisted brakes, and faithfully recreated dials and gauges complete the modern take on Shelby’s original 1960s Cobra.
Prices start at a somewhat eye-watering £195,000, with the old-schooler available in left- and right-hand drive. And no, this CSX10000 has nothing to do with the carbon-bodied, V8-engined AC Cobra GT Roadster that's planned by the current iteration of AC Cars. Let the Cobra wars commence...
