Yes, you should definitely buy this Honda Civic Mugen RR

Hardcore FD2 Civic is one of 300 ever built and one of only a handful in the UK

Published: 03 Jun 2021

Here’s something you don’t see up for sale in the UK all that often – a JDM-only FD2 Honda Civic Type R. What a shame we got lumped with the little-bit-lardy FN2 instead. But hang on, this isn’t even your standard FD2... this is the properly hardcore Mugen RR.

That’ll explain why Japanese import specialists Torque GT have it listed for £89,990, then. Yikes.

The pirate-spec RR was limited to just 300 examples, all of which apparently sold out within 10 minutes back in 2007, despite the Mugen costing around two million yen (£8,000-ish) more than a standard Type R.

Only a handful have made it over to the UK, with this one number 24 of 300. Mugen went serious with it, fitting carbon fibre front and rear bumpers, an aluminium bonnet, forged wheels and a giant carbon rear wing.

There were carbon fibre Recaro bucket seats too, as well as an engine remap, a new camshaft setup, a new intake system and a custom exhaust for a power increase of 15bhp, meaning the K20A 2.0-litre four-cylinder was sending 237bhp to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. There were also new Mugen springs and dampers, plus updates to the Brembo braking system.

This particular example has nearly 33,000 miles on the clock, but has apparently been in storage since it was imported and has only driven around 270 miles in the UK. What a shame.

Anyone here that’ll buy it and use it as intended?
