So, it turns out Sierra Cosworths are £600,000 cars now…
As-new Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 sells for ludicrous money at auction. Stop the world, we want to get off
Earlier this month we brought you news that a mint condition, 5,192-mile 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 was coming up for auction, with the seller hoping it may break the Sierra Cossie record of £135,700.
Well, we can now confirm that it did break that record. In fact, it absolutely obliterated it. The 224bhp, one-of-500 RS500 sold for (we hope you’re sitting down)… £590,500. And that’s without Silverstone Auctions’ buyer’s premium plus VAT. Who could have ever predicted that the Fast Ford love-in would go this far?
Of course, this was a rather lovely example of the Aston Martin Tickford-built homologation special. It had just been fully recommissioned with a fresh MOT (not that the new owner will drive it given the value) and the seller had sat it on a second set of RS500 wheels and tyres to ensure that its number-matched originals didn’t “bear the weight of the car for prolonged periods”.
Let’s just hope that monster Garrett turbo gets to spin itself up one more time before this thing gets hermetically sealed for the rest of days…
