Prince Charles’ Aston Martin DB6 runs on wine and cheese

Forget E10 – this Royal British sportscar runs on bioethanol. Whey-hey!

Published: 12 Oct 2021

Prince Charles has owned his Aston Martin DB6 Volante since 1970 and has once more reiterated that it runs not on regular unleaded, but instead on bioethanol produced from supply waste.

In an interview with the BBC covering climate change and his own efforts to lower his carbon footprint, Prince Charles confirmed his beautiful old DB6 does indeed run on wine and cheese. Yes folks, the classic Aston has a diet fit – quite literally – for royalty.

“I’ve got electric cars now but it’s been so difficult,” he told the BBC. “My old Aston Martin, which I’ve had for 51 years, runs on – can you believe this – surplus English white wine, and whey from the cheese process.”

The bioethanol is produced by a Gloucestershire-based company called Green Fuels, who worked with Aston Martin heritage specialist RS Williams Ltd to convert the Prince’s DB6 into a cheese and wine machine.

The ‘regular’ car – a Series II – emerged in 1969 bearing a 4.0-litre straight-six and 282bhp. Prince Charles enlisted the services of one Graham Hill many moons ago to teach him the finer points of enjoying his DB6. As driving instructors go, a two-time Formula One world champion isn’t bad.

Suffice to say, the Prince’s DB6 pumps out more power thanks to its boozy diet. So, unleash your finest wine and cheese-based car puns in the space below, and keep ‘em clean…
