The new Ford GT Alan Mann Heritage Edition looks glorious

Ford’s latest retro paintjob celebrates the experimental lightweights built by Brits

Published: 09 Feb 2022

Ford has released no fewer than seven different ‘Heritage Edition’ liveries since production of the new GT began back in late 2016, but this might just be our favourite one yet.

The Alan Mann Heritage Edition pays tribute to the two lightweight, experimental Mk1 Ford GTs built by Alan Mann Racing in 1965 and '66. Those cars were aluminium-bodied and painted in the classic red and gold livery of AMR in period, and although they never won races they contributed to the development of the Le Mans-winning Mk2.

And lo, the new Alan Mann Edition uses a similar livery, with an extremely bold red accented by gold racing stripes and flashes of white. Oh, and because it’s a Heritage Edition it has to have roundels with racing numbers in them. Wouldn’t be retro without them, would it?

Elsewhere there’s plenty of exposed carbon fibre on the front splitter, the sills, the mirrors and the rear diffuser, and the lightweight wheels are made from the same stuff. Prepare for kerbs to be your new worst enemy.

The interior is fairly restrained, with more carbon and plenty of black Alcantara. Check out those red paddleshifters though – lovely.

Ford says that the Alan Mann will be available for “approved” GT customers only, although it hasn’t put an official number on how many will be built. Production of the GT is set to end at some point this year though, so best get that order in quickly…
