How much do you reckon this Aston DB AR1 Zagato will sell for?
This DB7 Volante-based AR1 is heading for auction in Florida next month
There’s a strong back catalogue of Aston Martin and Zagato collaborations these days. So much so, in fact, that the brilliant DB7 Volante-based DB AR1 is oft-forgotten.
There’s one heading for auction next month at RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island sale, though, so we want to know how much you reckon it’ll fetch when the time comes?
Some background info. The DB AR1 (full name – the ‘American Roadster 1’) was conceived as the DB7 Zagato coupe wasn’t homologated for the US. That meant 99 roadsters were shipped across to the US, complete with glorious big grilles and twin cowls behind the seats to echo Zagato’s classic double bubble look.
The AR1 had no roof at all, with just a rain cover to protect the early 2000s interior. It also used the DB7’s standard 435bhp 5.9-litre V12 and there was the option of a six-speed manual or five-speed auto gearbox.
This particular car – number 79 of 99 – is a manual with a restrained black interior and plenty of carbon trim. RM Sotheby’s says that the current owner bought it back in 2006, by which point the HRE wheels, slotted brake discs and twin-plate AP Racing clutch had already been fitted. There’s just 9,360 miles on the clock too.
The estimate? Between £165,000 and £200,000. What do we think, folks?
