Exciting news for Porsche 993 owners: RUF has designed new LED headlights!

And you’ll probably be able to fit them yourselves. Swap out those candles now

Published: 29 Jan 2025

We bring you exciting news in the world of headlamp technology: be still thine beating hearts, for Porsche tuner RUF has designed and manufactured a new set of rather bright LED headlights for the old 993-generation Porsche 911.

How bright? Nearly three times brighter than the original units.

We know, right? More excitingly, these new LED lights have been approved by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SEC) and the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE). Ain’t no party like an SEC and ECE LED light approval party, as they say.

We jest. If you’ve got a 993, probably a wise upgrade to swap out the original car’s candles (relatively speaking) for these. Owners might like to know RUF partnered with the 993’s original designer Tony Hatter, a Brit with classics like this 993, GT1, 996 and the production Carrera GT under his belt, for the upgrade.

An upgrade that centres the light module in the middle of the lamp with a surrounding clasp in a funnel and, yeah, you’re all here for surrounding clasps.

They’re glare free, illuminate the road asymmetrically, and the €8,361.34 pack contains nine separate units comprised of: two headlights, two indicators, two fogs, two rear lights and one rear centre light. RUF reckons it’s easy to fit “with basic mechanical knowledge”.

“We are seeing the new year in a new light,” said Alois Ruf, rather excellently. “We wanted to create a lighting system that prioritises safety, visibility, and authenticity. The extensive development process was well worth it.”
