This delightful Renault Sport Spider is up for grabs
This super rare Renault is being offered at Silverstone Auctions’ next event
We really are very good to you lot, aren’t we? We’re not just reminding you that the wonderful Renault Sport Spider exists, we’re also letting you know this one here is up for sale. Yep, hide those wallets once again.
Renault Sport developed the Spider with a one-make race series in mind, but it also had the forethought to produce 1,635 road-going examples in the late 1990s. They were better times.
Just 60 of those cars made it across to the UK, and all featured a 148bhp example of the 16v four-cylinder engine first seen in the Clio Williams and the original Megane Coupe. Power stood at just 148bhp, but the Spider’s aluminium chassis and plastic body panels meant it only weighed 930kg.
That allowed 0-60mph to be dispatched in 6.9 seconds and meant there was enough performance to scare serious metal at track days. There's still some left in this one, as it’s only done 14,500 miles from new and looks box fresh. That silver colour suits the Spider down to the ground too.
So, what else can we tell you to convince you of the Spider’s brilliance? Well, as you can see from the images above, there’s a rather wild door setup and only three dials directly in front of the driver – because who needs a legible speedo when you’re flat out everywhere?
This particular example is heading up for auction at the Silverstone Auctions NEC sale in November. There’s no estimate as of yet, so how much do we reckon it’ll go for folks?
