Bored of restomod 911s? Try this carbon-bodied 800kg 912 Targa on for size

Hungarian firm KAMM is back with the wonderful looking, four-cylinder 912c Targa

Published: 17 Jan 2025

Want your Porsche restomod with less weight, fewer cylinders and a lovely roll hoop? Good news! KAMManufaktur is here with a follow up to its tin-topped 912c, and as you can probably work out from the images above, it’s called the 912c Targa.

To recap, the 912 was essentially an entry-level variant of the 911 which Porsche released in 1965. The big difference between the two cars? The 912 only got four cylinders.

KAMM retains that cylinder count, but the soft-window Targa shares its engine mods with the coupe, meaning the original 1.6-litre engine is enlarged to 2.0-litres and gets electronic fuel injection and throttle bodies. As a result, it produces a neat 182bhp and 151lb ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed dogleg gearbox connected to a Porsche hydraulic racing clutch and a limited slip diff.

Now, that might not sound like a huge amount of power, but the 912c Targa gets carbon fibre body panels and lightweight polycarbonate windows, so despite some extra body strengthening KAMM’s Targa still tips the scales at less than 800kg. Heck, even the roll hoop is made from carbon fibre. Perhaps that surfboard is up on the roof to stop this thing flying away in a strong breeze.

In fact, the car you see here is actually a special, one-off launch edition of the 912c Targa based on a 1968 car that was originally purchased in Belgium, and if you get in quick it’s up for sale for €395,000 (complete with surfboard). If you miss out, we’re told that 2025 build slots for bespoke commissions are still available. And yes, we implore you to spec the KAMM carbon roof rack, the aluminium wheels, Cibie spotlights and the Pasha interior.

“Many potential clients live in areas blessed with great weather and want to experience all a KAMM has to offer," said founder Miklos Kazmer. "With that in mind I created the KAMM 912c Targa. Based on the soft-window Targa, it retains classically original looks but is every inch a true KAMM.”
