Question of the Week

Which manufacturer do you want to see compete in a particular motorsport?

Ferrari in NASCAR or Pagani in Formula One? Perhaps Mercedes in the WRC, or something even wilder than any of those? The comment section awaits

Published: 16 Sep 2024

Motorsport is cool, and cars that win in motorsports are cooler than cool. That’s why that old adage of “win on a Sunday, sell on a Monday” continues to have so much significance to this day. Perhaps it’s also why Genesis - the luxury bit of Hyundai - is the latest manufacturer to take the plunge.

Last week, it announced its intentions to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the coming years, and that got us thinking: which carmaker that doesn’t compete in a specific form of racing would you like to see do so?

The possibilities are endless, really. How about Ferrari in NASCAR? Imagine seeing Formula One’s most famous team - now making waves again in endurance racing - and the Tifosi, in oval racing. Absolute scenes.

Or how about Pagani in Formula One. What if Horacio’s no-limits approach was given, er, limits? What if there were actual rules and regulations to abide by? It would be compelling to see how he and his undoubtedly gifted group of engineers would fare against the grid.

Final proposition: Mercedes in the WRC. There’s already a suitable candidate in place to don the famous Silver Arrow moniker by way of the A45, and it’s practically been four decades since Merc withdrew from proper rallying. It’s high time for a return, particularly since the WRC needs a bit more participation these days.

What do we reckon, readers? Let us know in the comment section below, the team, the competition and the why, and we’ll feature the very best ideas in Friday’s result post. See you there.
