These are Daniel Ricciardo’s greatest moments in F1, as voted for by you
From ambitious moves to memorable quotes, take a walk through some of the Honey Badger’s highlights
Oh, Danny, we’ll miss that evergreen smile and the champagne-filled shoe chugs you brought to Formula One. The eight-time race-winner effectively bid farewell to the sport last week, with RB replacing him with Liam Lawson.
In our latest Question of the Week series entry, we asked our readers just which moment they felt was peak Honey Badger, and these are some of the best bits we plucked from a busy comments section.
Flatsix said: “Fourth place in the Miami Sprint this year was a massively underrated moment and perhaps his real last hurrah. Qualifying on the second row, he ran third in the early laps before inevitably being overtaken by Perez. However, he kept Sainz and Piastri behind at bay for the remainder of the race in a remarkable defensive display and came home for seven points on a day Yuki collected none.”
Next up is Gandubilli Siddharth, who chose a quite brilliant move for their vote: “How about that moment when he absolutely schooled his up-till-then untouchable defending champion teammate into the Roggia chicane at Monza in 2014? I know he had already won three Grands Prix by then, but that moment stands out to me.”
Sticking with Monza for a moment, Tyas Moerti says: “A tie between his 2018 Monaco and 2021 Monza wins. It was the peak for him - it’s sad to see how he slumped since then. Still a fan though, and I do hope we’ll see Danny compete in other forms of motorsport.”
Our penultimate comment this week came from Basil the Batlord: “Given his long slump after the win at Monza, him clinching the fastest lap time at Singapore was awesome. Singapore may have also brought his career to an untimely end, but at least he walked away getting one last point. Several drivers will or already have left with even less of a final high note.”
So very true, Batlord. Last but certainly not least is MJC, who reminded us that not all success needs to be measured on the track. “Formula One wasn’t an opportunity to show the world his driving, but an opportunity to give the world some much-needed words of wisdom, best demonstrated after a tough British GP in 2016. 'Sport does that, it’s up and down and it kicks you in the nuts sometimes, I guess.'"
Thank you, everyone, for another brilliant week of arguments and reasoning, we look forward to seeing them pile up again on Monday’s follow-up. See you there, folks.
