Question of the Week

Question of the Week: what was Ricciardo’s greatest moment in F1?

Reckon it’s one of his eight race wins or something done off-track by the man with the world’s strongest cheek muscles?

Published: 30 Sep 2024

The perennial smile, the vibrant persona and the gritty Aussie spirit; Daniel Ricciardo will be missed. In 258 races, he chalked up eight wins, 32 podiums and amassed over 1,300 career points. Safe to say, he was a hotshoe. With a penchant for drinking from... hot shoes.

But Formula One is a ruthless sport, evidenced by RB’s decision to drop and replace him with Liam Lawson. It felt inevitable following his emotional sign-off at Singapore last weekend, where he acknowledged that could’ve been his swansong drive.

So Ricciardo draws the curtains on a 13-year F1 career with an incredible string of memories to look back on. Perhaps the highlight of those is the one race every driver dreams of winning: Monaco.

He did just that in 2018, despite struggling with persisting powertrain problems, which eventually led to gearbox issues and even overheating brakes. Worse still, he was under immense pressure from four-time champion Sebastian Vettel for almost two-thirds of the race. But he was a Honey Badger on a mission, and absolutely nothing was going to stop him that day.

Here’s a bit of a trivial question for you: who remembers the very first time he did his renowned ‘Shoey’ celebration? Yep, it was at the 2016 German Grand Prix following his second-placed finish at Hockenheim. Maybe champagne does taste better from a freshly worn mix of silicone rubber and Velcro straps.

Anyway, we want you, dear readers, to tell us which Danny Ric moment has been your favourite and why. As per usual, the best answers will form the structure for Friday’s result post. We look forward to combing through this one.
