One of the more glorious supercars of the 1990s, with 680bhp powering little over a tonne
Think we’ve got it good nowadays when it comes to headline hypercars? The 1990s weren’t too shabby either. The Ferrari F40 was still in production, Bugatti made the bonkers EB110 and Jaguar introduced the XJ220.
Its tale is a complex and problematic one, but with Jaguar producing nothing like it since, its mystique is only swelling. Pictured here is the XJ220S, produced by Tom Walkinshaw Racing and essentially a road-legal version of its XJ220 racecar.
It’s a mighty 400kg less than standard, while its big wing, open headlights and lurid yellow paint scheme add visual clout to a car that never shied away from attention in the first place…
