Photo of the day: Renault's R.S 01 racer is very, very pretty
V6 racer makes its UK debut this weekend. Good news for eyes and ears
The Renaultsport R.S 01 is a racer with a mighty tasty spec sheet. It employs a dry-sumped version of the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 from the Nissan GT-R, good for 550bhp and driving the rear wheels through a seven-speed sequential gearbox.
It weighs a mere 1100kg and wears sticky bespoke Michelins, giving it the sort of acceleration generally the preserve of ballistic weaponry.
But even if it was powered by a watch battery and boasted the performance of a milkfloat, it wouldn’t matter, for the R.S 01 looks – as the above picture will attest – the dog’s wotsits.
Massive wing, massive diffuser, yellow paint: what more do you need from a racer? Apart from, y’know, the ability to cross the finish line while performing a front-flip?
The R.S 01 makes its UK debut this weekend next month at Renault’s ‘World Series’ meet at Silverstone, where it’ll compete in the Renaultsport Trophy series.
If the clip we showed you last year is anything to go by, it’ll be worth packing your ears off on a day-trip to Silverstone for the noise alone…
