The Rimac C_Two has gone blue and boozy for Pebble
Croatia’s hyper EV now has two huge bottles of champagne to go with its 1,900bhp
Can you hear that? It’s the sound of posh people pressing their salmon coloured chinos and sharpening their cigar cutters in preparation for California’s biggest car-based lawn party, Pebble Beach.
It kicks off later this week, but Rimac has already shown us what it’s going to rock up with to whet our appetite. It’s a one-off, but unlike the recent trend of mad rebodied one-offs and concepts that have been gracing the finely cut grass of Pebble Beach, it’s simply a very blue Rimac C_Two with new wheels and a boot full of booze. Six litres of champagne (and two flutes) to be precise. Which is basically a pre-lash. And pointless, as you can’t drink and drive anyway.
Dubbed the ‘California’, the C_Two also gets bright blue paint and new wheels. Not that it needed much else to be impressive. Remember, this is the level four autonomous successor to the Concept_One electric hypercar. It’s more powerful, faster, goes further on a charge, and terrifyingly clever.
Rimac claims the C_Two’s four electric motors develop a combined 1,914hp (1,887bhp) and 1,696lb ft. The front wheels individually use a single-speed gearbox each, while the use of twin two-speed gearboxes at the rear makes for a truly terrifying top speed. Rimac is claiming v-max at 258mph. Which is quick. Really quick.
On the way to that top speed, we’re told the C_Two will have cracked 0-60mph in 1.85 seconds (albeit with an American drag strip-friendly one-foot rollout), and 0-62mph, for we Europeans, in 1.97 seconds. The Rimac will then cover off 0-100mph in 4.3 seconds. Quarter-mile? 9.1 seconds. And don’t presume it runs out of puff once past three figures.
Rimac reckons its new flagship will see off 0-186mph in 11.8 seconds. If these numbers prove to be accurate, then Croatia’s super-EV will enter a very exclusive speed club occupied by the likes of the Bugatti Chiron and Koenigsegg Agera RS. The fastest cars in the world. Ones that will also be at Monterey’s Car Week, so if you want to see the Rimac for yourself head to The Quail this Friday, or Exotics on Cannery Row this Saturday.
