Official: Nissan to build 50 units of the 711bhp GT-R50

Though the brief for the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign centred around the notion of a 'GT-R without limits', there are in fact, a couple: only 50 are being made, and each one will cost you €990,000.

Yes folks, some good news. Nissan has confirmed that it will put the delightful GT-R50 concept we first saw at Goodwood earlier this year into very limited production.

“The reaction from Nissan fans around the world – and potential customers of the GT-R50 – has greatly exceeded our expectations,” said Nissan’s global sports car director Bob Laishley.

The GT-R50 also greatly exceeds the ‘regular’ GT-R. The roofline for example, sits 54mm lower than standard, huge strakes moulded into the surface to better channel the air being battered around it. There’s a pop-up rear wing, and the GT-R’s famous round taillights get the 3D treatment.

Power too, greatly exceeds the regular GT-R’s 592bhp. GT3-spec competition turbochargers and bigger intercoolers replace the standard blowers, there’s a heavy duty crank, reinforced pistons, connecting rods and bearings, a new exhaust and better cooling and oil systems. The net effect is 711bhp and 575lb ft of torque. Hell, even the gearbox has been beefed up to better cope with all that.

Adjustable Bilstein dampers complete the suspension and drivetrain tweaks, while monster 21in carbon fibre wheels complete the exterior. Which, as you can spot from these new images, comes in other colours aside from gold. Nissan says customers will be able to choose whichever colour combination they prefer for the production cars, along with a specialised interior.

“These 50 cars, which celebrate 50 years of the GT-R as well - as 50 years of Italdesign - will be rolling tributes to Nissan’s engineering leadership and rich sports car heritage for a long time to come,” Laishley added. Deliveries will commence in 2019 and 2020.
