This is the new Mazda 6

Published: 25 Jul 2012

In the latter half of 2011, Mazda rolled out a rather attractive saloon concept named the ‘Takeri'; it was the second iteration of its new ‘Kodo' design language pointing towards how a future Mazda 6 would emerge.

Now it has emerged, sort of, and you can see it looks a lot like the Takeri. Sort of.

Mazda has thrown the full suite of its ‘Skyactiv' technologies at the new saloon, and the new 6 will be the first Mazda featuring brake energy regeneration, dubbed ‘i-Eloop'. Hit the brakes, and the kinetic energy is transformed into electricity, which is then stored in capacitors used to power the 6's equipment - if it follows the Takeri's suit.

The model shown in Moscow will feature a 2.0-litre petrol mated to a six-speed automatic ‘Skyactiv' transmission, but most of you will probably go for the 2.2-litre diesel. Mazda promises this new 6 will offer "the pleasure of responsive and agile driving", thanks to a new lightweight structure and chassis tech.

If the last one is anything to go by, this new one will be pretty good. Have a click through the pics and let us know if you're tickled by it. The public debut is scheduled for 29 August...
