James Bond's DB5 sells for £3 million
James Bond's Aston Martin DB5 sold at auction for £3 million in London last night.
The winning bid came from American businessman Harry Yeaggy, who now becomes only the second private owner of the 1964 Aston, the first being Philadelphia radio broadcaster Jerry Lee.
Lee originally bought the 1964 Aston for $12,000 in 1969, and last night made quite a lot more as the final bid ratcheted up to £2,912,000.
Mr Yeaggy plans to display the precious Aston in his private car museum in Ohio, while Lee will plough the proceeds of the sale into his charity, the Jerry Lee Foundation.
Don't forget Top Gear fans, this car features the full complement of Q gadgets and is a star of Goldfinger and Thunderball, having been hustled under the hairy digits of Sean Connery himself.
And if you think buying Bond's actual DB5 automatically grants you a golden suit, you're not far off. The winning bidder gets a bespoke Saville Row suit made from special 'Vanquish II' fabric with solid gold thread, along with a seven-night stay for ten guests at Bond creator Ian Fleming's GoldenEye resort in Jamaica; the very resort where the ex-WW2 intelligence officer created the world's most famous spy.
Lee and Yeaggy aren't the only ones to have piloted Connery's DB5 however. Oh no sir, Top Gear splashed on some Old Spice and sunk into the Aston's Very Old Leather to take it for a spin. Click here to find out what happened.
Gutted you missed out on a world-famous Aston? Well, you could have another, erm, quite famous Aston, for a lot less. The last ever Aston Martin Vanquish 'Ultimate' - 50 of 50 - is being sold on behalf of Aston Martin by dealer JCT600 for £199,995. Sell that kidney. Sell it...
