“Hayes attacks round the outside!” and other key details from the latest F1 movie teaser

There’s a lot to digest from this 30-second cut…

SPOILER ALERT: this story doesn’t contain any. Well, not intentional ones. But if you’re the kind of person who tries not to pay too close attention to the finer details of a theatrical trailer in order to not ruin movie night… why on earth did you click on this in the first place?! Go read today’s latest Aston news instead.

Where were we? That’s right, the F1 movie trailer: there’s a new one. Not last summer’s minute-long teaser lazily re-cut, nor the full booming “FROM THE MAKERS OF TOP GUN: MAVERICK” etcetera etcetera. But a new, 30-second package to remind us all that the film hits our screens this summer.

It crams a lot in. We open with a close-up of Sonny Hayes taking the race start from last place at Silverstone, immediately throwing not one but two doses of full opposite lock (no wonder Apex GP is at the back of the grid), before we’re whisked off to some epic camerawork at Spa.

Then things really get going. Contact with an Alpine! A broken front wing! A crash! And then Brad Pitt and co-star Damson Idris get involved in a dust-up in the garage. All this inside 15 seconds.

Then we get Javier Bardem and Kerry Condon reacting to stimulus unknown (no doubt a deleted lap time for track limits), a car on fire, and then Max Verstappen banging wheels with Hayes at the Italian Grand Prix. Wonder if the protracted stewards investigation will make the final edit?

A trio of crashes later (including an especially violent wreck in what looks like Vegas) we reach the crescendo as a lone commentator bellows “Hayes attacks round the outside!” with “Through goes Hamilton!” levels of verve. Aaand scene.

Have a look for yourself above, and render the last four paragraphs entirely pointless…
