This is the coolest Lego Ecto-1 we’ve ever seen
Watch us try to to talk about a Ghostbusters toy without using any of the lyrics from the theme song
Here’s a quick game for you Eighties and Nineties kids – pick just one movie and toy that evokes more childhood nostalgia than any other. If you picked Ghostbusters and Lego, we have some very exciting news for you. On the other hand, if you picked Howard the Duck and a Furby, we have deep-seated concerns about your decision-making abilities. But we, as ever, digress.
Let’s get back to the exciting news – a Lego model of the original Ecto-1 that absolutely nails the overwrought lines of the 1959 Cadillac Miller Meteor ambulance and the Ghostbusters’ modifications. Y’know, after sorting out the suspension work, shocks, brakes, brake pads, steering box, transmission, rear end, rings, mufflers and a little wiring.
And, much like the original Caddy wagon, the Lego model is mahoosive – nearly half a metre in length when it’s fully assembled. And, for the Rees-Moggs among you, that’s nearly an entire royal cubit long. And that’s a lot of Lego – 2,352 pieces, in fact. But then again, you’d need that, as Lego itself calls the Ecto-1 the most detailed recreation.
Now, about that ‘detailed recreation’ thing. Admittedly, it’s been a while since we’ve seen either of the Ghostbusters movies we actually ever watched, but we don’t remember features like an extendable rear gunner seat in the old Ecto-1. And that must mean... yep. They’re doing another movie.
Right, so Hollywood is just going to keep trying to raise the franchise from the dead, is it? Gosh, if only there were someone we could call in a situation like this.
