Audi supercharged A6 news - Bowling for supe' - 2009

Published: 30 Jan 2009

Audi's supercharged A6 is about to partake in that time of year when Americans get all whoopy and excited over ‘football’.

Yep, this weekend is the Superbowl, which might sound like a giant piece of crockery, but is actually one of the world’s biggest sporting trophies.

Apparently the planet’s eyes will be on it, with an anticipated global audience of a 98 million (96milion of which will be in America...). So you can imagine why prime ad spots fetch massive dollars. Good job that Audi is one of the few car companies with any dollars left, then, as this year it will be screening one of the centrepiece ads.

It did the same last year with a Godfather spoof and an R8, which is why even though we don't usually talk about ads, we are this time cos Audi have good form. This year, it’s using Jason Statham and the new supercharged A6, with another movie-inspired commercial.

If web rumours are to be believed, the ad will show Statham flitting through various iconic movie scenes, in search of the perfect getaway vehicle. Then – yep, you guessed it – he stumbles upon the A6. Hardly the ‘perfect’ getaway car, but we’re sure it’ll be brisk.

Question is, what scenes will he be finding himself in? Something from Ronin, maybe? What if he wanders passed incredibly unsuitable cars - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Ghostbusters' ambulance and so on - shaking his head, and then with a wry smile stumbles upon the A6? Maybe with a Robert Downey Jnr cameo telling Statham he can't borrow Iron Man's R8.
