Watch Kris Meeke have the biggest crash of his life

Top Gear’s favourite rallyist sends his Citroen WRC car into a 14-roll spin cycle

Published: 02 May 2017

While most of us were being lazy over the bank holiday weekend, Top Gear’s favourite rallyist Kris Meeke was busy doing his day job – skidding his Citroen C3 rally around Argentina while competing in the World Rally Championship. But it wasn’t his best weekend, as he crashed not once, but twice. In spectacular fashion to boot - with the car ending up crumpled and on its roof both times.

Things started going badly on Friday, when Kris was forced to retire from the day having crashed out of Stage Four after hitting a bump in the middle of what Kris called "a nothing corner". That "nothing corner" sent him up in the air and into a bank which caused the car to topple over onto its roof at high speed. As you can see from this footage, the car took quite a battering, sustaining massive damage to the front, roof and rear of the car.

Amazingly, Citroen’s crack team of mechanics managed to bring back the mangled C3 back from the dead in a three-hour intensive rebuild (shown in this incredible timelapse) that saw him back on the road on Saturday.

Unfortunately, Kris then crashed again. And in even more spectacular fashion. Attacking a sixth-gear right-hander on the second run of Los Gigantes on Saturday afternoon, Kris understeered to the outside of the dusty course and smacked a rock, sending his rebuilt hatchback into a violent 14-roll spin before landing on its roof. Again.

Unfortunately, it was game over after that as Kris and his co-driver Paul Nagle were taken to the medical centre for a checkup and CT scan. Thankfully, they were both fine. Amazing considering the Northern Irishman stated it was the biggest crash of career. Check it out for yourself above.
