Watch a 626bhp Bentley race up a mountain in 10 mins
On board footage of Rhys Millen’s Pikes Peak run in a Continental GT
Back in 2014, a Porsche 911 Turbo S managed to race up Pikes Peak – big scary car, big scary mountain – in 10m 26.9s. In 2019, Bentley decided to deploy its own big scary car to said mountain to record a course time some eight seconds faster.
Now, you can see just what it looks like from the driver’s point of view, because Bentley has released a new on-board video of its Pikes Peak record run.
That’s right, a Continental GT now holds the, um, production car record at Pikes Peak. Rhys Millen secured a time of 10m 18.488s. It’s a long old course, taking in 156 turns and covering nearly 12 and a half miles.
The Conti? It’s the W12 motor, with 626bhp and 662lb ft of torque, all-wheel-drive and equipped with a roll cage, a fire extinguisher, a Rhys Millen and some proper racing seats. Otherwise, standard. Or as standard as you can get in a car capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in 3.7s and a top speed of 207mph. And one that costs, brand new, just shy of £160k.
Anyway, ride on board with Mr Millen above. Ideally before you have lunch...
