VW launches Polo R WRC car
Volkswagen has confirmed its intention to race in the world rally championship with this: the Polo R WRC.
Unveiled on the eve of the Rally Sardinia, VW's big chiefs announced the company would re-enter WRC in 2013 with a turbocharged, 300bhp four-wheel-drive rascal.
Don't forget, the company used to compete in world rally in the ‘80s with the Golf GTI, with Kenneth Eriksson and Peter Diekmann taking the world title in 1986. The new kid with slidey shoes to fill will house a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-pot as per the new stricter regulations, competing against the Citroen DS3, Ford Fiesta and Mini Countryman. Let battle commence.
Could this dastardly creation point towards a fiery Polo R super-hatch in the future?
