Video: this is why go-karts have brakes

Fearless racer keeps it pinned. Instantly regrets it

Published: 29 Nov 2016

As a resident of the internet, you may be familiar with the meme of a dog dressed up as a labourer – complete with sunglasses and Timberland boots – trying to lay concrete. It’s captioned ‘I have no idea what I’m doing’ and is very funny. Well, prepare yourself for that meme in video form.

No, it’s not actually a dog trying to lay concrete (but we very much want to see that), instead, it is a video of someone who has no idea what they’re doing.

It’s footage of an ambitious racer at a local kart track in Skopje, Macedonia shot from the helmet cam of another racer. The video starts innocently, with the first kart weaving through the pits – obviously warming the tyres for a hot lap – before entering the circuit to take the first right-hander. But then… boom! An RKO out of nowhere as aforementioned ambitious racer cuts him up the inside at full-chat. Failing to even tickle the brakes, she crashes spectacularly into the tyre barrier – hitting the wall with such force she’s trebuchet'd out of the bucket seat and into the local scenery.

Now, you can’t fault her commitment, but the brakes are there for a reason and turn out to be quite handy in situations like this. Luckily, we’re told that she wasn’t hurt during the accident. Phew.

So remember kids. Motorsport is dangerous, no matter what level you're playing it at.
